When In Newburyport, MA

Newburyport, Massachusetts is one of my favorite places to visit. The city is located on the border of New Hampshire and has all the charm of a coastal town. It was actually supposed to be the capital of Massachusetts but the mouth of the Merrimack River is so powerful and strong that ships couldn’t get in and out of it for trade with ease. (Take that to your next trivia night)

Here are a few of my favorite places to go when I’m here.

For Food:

Black Cow is perfect for a romantic night or a fancy gathering. The view is amazing with the restaurant located right on the Merrimack River. This is a little bit of a pricier option, but there is nothing bad on the menu.

Loretta’s is another fabulous choice. The roast turkey sandwich is always fresh and the staff is always friendly and welcoming.

Now, if you happen to spend the night in Newburyport or are just getting an early start to your adventure, head over to Angie’s for breakfast. This is a hotspot for locals and the pancakes are bigger than the size of your head.

For Shopping:

The Brass Lyon has everything that depicts New England. There are signs for just about anyone you know, nautical trinkets, and other touristy gifts to mark your adventure in Newburyport or give to friends and family. The owners are husband and wife and know just about everything there is to know about the city.

Coast & Country is a new store but it has all clothes that match the “coastal and country” chic women love!

For Coffee & Pastries:

Soufflés is known for the best coffee in the city (aside from Dunkin Donuts. There are four of them located around this small city!) You can never go wrong with a classic Chai drink or any of their seasonal specialty drinks. The raspberry lemon ricotta muffins are amazing as well.

Chococoa Baking Company is better known their whoopee pies than coffee but they have that as well. I have not had one bad whoopee pie

For the beach lovers:

Take a short two minute drive to Plum Island for your fix of a great beach day and to see dunes and piping plovers.

For an Experience:

Book a sunset catamaran trip along the coastline with the ninth wave sailing charters. This is perfect for a romantic trip or a family night on the water!
